The PC (Protection Controller) course is for those who wish to act as Protection Controller for more than one group of workers on Network Rail's infrastructure. You must have been deemed suitable by your sponsor.

A protection controller is required when a line blockage needs to be shared by two or more COSSs or IWAs.

​

You will learn the skills & knowledge needed to successfully fill the role of Protection Controller in line with the PC unit of competence.

 

Procedures set out in Handbook 8 of the Rule Book will be covered, as well as the importance of correct communication protocols and appropriate behaviours to fulfil the role safely and effectively.
